| HEBCAC
focuses its program resources to assist residents and community organizations
in fostering neighborhood improvements and in addressing issues of
crime and grime. Neighborhood
Projects
HEBCAC coordinates several programs to provide financial and technical
assistance to help organize and support community associations in
Historic East Baltimore with the neighborhood improvement and sanitation
initiatives. Such initiatives include neighborhood clean-ups, the
creation of community gardens, planting trees and shrubs, and various
other physical improvements. In addition, HEBCAC provides staff
and limited funding assistance to communities for the promotion
and coordination of special events in the Historic East Baltimore
community.
Weed
and Seed
The goals of Weed and Seed are to reduce violent crime, drug trafficking,
and drug-related crime in targeted high-crime neighborhoods and
to provide a safe healthy environment where law-abiding citizens
can live, work, and raise their families. Directed by a Steering
Committee representing the Community, Baltimore City Police Department,
the US Attorney’s Office and various other partners, priorities
are established and funding provided for police overtime in targeted
areas, neighborhood restoration and various collaborations between
the community and local, federal, and state law enforcement agencies.
