Monument Street is proud to have been designated a Main Street under the direction of the coordinating program at the Baltimore Development Corporation. As a Baltimore City Main Street we follow a program model developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Center that has been used in over 1,500 communities across the US since 1980. Organizing volunteers from the business and residential community, we address issues and concerns relating to design/physical improvements, marketing/promotion, and economic restructuring/business assistance that impact the Monument Street business district.
Located at the edge of the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus, Monument Street has over 170 neighborhood businesses that sell a wide range products and services. Also the Northeast Market, one of Baltimore’s most vibrant public markets anchors one end of the district and to the north construction of the $800 million East Baltimore New Community Initiative is underway.
