Certified Success: Derrick George becomes a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.

We are thrilled to announce that Dee’s Place Volunteer Peer, Derrick George, passed his test to become a State of Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS). Derrick's dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to helping others on their journey of recovery have propelled him to this well-deserved milestone.

The CPRS certification validates the person in long-term recovery has obtained formal training and education of the knowledge, skills and abilities in each of the four domains and is committed to the adherence to the ethics Code of Conduct, Principles and Service Guidelines.

Derrick reflected on his journey to become a certified peer. He shared,

“I am currently in long term recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders. During my process of change I decided to become a peer recovery specialist. Special requirements are needed to become a peer. In pursuit of these requirements, I was referred to Dee’s Place.

I am from Baltimore and when we talk about recovery, Dee’s Place is always mentioned… Dee’s Place provided a space for me to volunteer in the role of a peer and I was able to accumulate all the hours needed for certification… Other than support with sustaining my recovery, I gained full-time employment from a recommendation made by Mr. Dwayne Bruce. I am currently employed with the Enoch Pratt Library in a full-time peer recovery specialist position due to Mr. Bruce’s recommendation.

The staff at Dee’s Place has contributed so much to my progress and the community and I’m thankful for that.”

We are all grateful for Derrick and celebrate him for his accomplishment and continued growth, as he continues to inspire and assist others in recovery. Congratulations, Derrick George, on this outstanding accomplishment as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist!
